Hickory Nut Gap Inn, Bed and Breakfast, (Western North Carolina),

A Brief History
of the Hickory Nut Gap Inn

This mountaintop hideaway was built on 5000 acres as a weekend retreat by local Trailways Bus Company founder, Herman Hardison in the 1940s and 1950s. Natural materials such as stone and wood milled from the property were used to build the lodge. Today there are 75 beautiful, forested acres laced with excellent hiking trails.

In 1977, one of the promoters of the rock group Lynyrd Skynyrd bought the lodge for a rehearsal studio and playroom for the group. Memorabilia and a platinum record from this period still hang in the inn. In the early 1980s Bettina Spaulding ("B") inherited the house and, with Captain Easy Batterson, realized the potential of welcoming guests from around the world.

Present owner, Bo Trammell, grew up in these mountains. Bo bought the inn in 1998, and with Courtney Thompson, has kept the flavor and charm intended by the original owners. They look forward to welcoming you as their guests!
